Statement of Purpose

The Ecorse Historical Society, a 501(c)3 non-profit membership driven organization, encourages the study of Ecorse's history and its relevance to the region and the state of Michigan. We believe to study the past is to understand the present and prepare for the future.  Our vision is  to ensure that Ecorse's past remains accessible to present and future generations.  The Ecorse Historical Society shall work to:

  1. Promote involvement and communication with local citizens and the general public.

  2. Promote the study and interpretation of the history of  the city of Ecorse.

  3. Use history to help make Ecorse a destination, thus, promoting tourism.

  4. Develop a membership reflecting all segments of Ecorse's population.

  5. Encourage high quality teaching of Ecorse history in all schools and for all ages.

  6. Establish an active program of financial development and organizational growth.

  7. Explore mergers or cooperation with other history related organizations.

  8. Promote general public understanding of the history of Ecorse. Promote historic sites, monuments, etc. for the general public.

  9. Promote the interpretation of historic sites and preservation of sites where appropriate.

  10. Improve the visibility of the Ecorse Historical Society.

  11. Provide information for state agencies involved in promotion, interpretation, and preservation of Ecorse history.

  12. Recognize and award individuals and organizations for contributions to Ecorse's history.

The Ecorse Historical Society is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization and your gift may qualify as a charitable deduction for Federal Income Tax purposes.  Donors should consult their tax advisers or the IRS to determine whether a contribution is deductible. 

 

The Ecorse Historical Society will not trade, share or sell a donor’s personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations.
